Possibly Moving to Westport, Conn. - What's it like?

Unless one is a die-hard Red Sox fan, "Yankee" is not a derogatory term!

Y'all mean "Southern." (After all, Westport is in southern Connecticut and Connecticut is called southern New England.)

Seriously people? I grew up in CT, and the term "yankee" is probably not one that I'd use to describe myself, but I don't care if others refer to me that way. See also: "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court." The term's got history

I just think you would sound very uneducated if you use such a dated term, OP. If you are from the south, it might be a big adjustment for you, but people are not helpless when it snows, for one.

So what's your favorite diner in the Westport area?
Anonymous
Diner? Such a random question(?!) Anyway....
The ony diner that comes to my mind is Sherwood Diner.

.I grew up in Westport. Was there this past week. Visit often because parents are there....and I love it! I posted previously on this thread.

Would you live in Westport or New Canaan or Weston if you had a choice?

We may also be transferred around there. What are private school options. We would be there for four years then back to DC so would like to keep in private schools to ease reapplication process.

I turned down a job offer in Wilton (which is a stone's throw away form westport) last year because I didn't really feel comfortable with the area.

Then again, I think it was more because of the job and my age (under 30).

I think I'd rather be poor/middle class in DC area than CT.

Though if I did get a job with Bridgewater or similar type hedge fund, I would certainly move to the area.

Greeeeeeaaaat but very expensive.

I wish I could move back up there. OP, you're very lucky!

As for the term Yankee, I don't think too many people think of southern CT as Yankee territory - unless you're talking about baseball. All of my friends from Westport commute to Manhattan for work every day. So, they're more metropolitan/New Yorky than Yankee.

That is a freaking hike - at least 3 1/4 hours per day door to door, unless your office is ten feet away from Grand Central.

Westporter here. ....train ride from westport to grand central is 1 hour

Yes, train ride is 1 hour to the city. Westport is a wonderful place to live.

Yes, but you have to drive to the station, park, wait for the train. Get to Grand Central, get out of the station and walk to your office. These things tack on minutes. If the train is about one hour but the other stuff is 15 before the train and 15 after each way, that just added an hour.

+1
It's also very segregated (Connecticut in general)
