Tips for first time Circus goers

I was helpful...told her not to go.

If OP said, "Does anyone know where we can catch some good dog fights? I am particularly interested in the ones where the dogs fight to the death. Any tips much appreciated?" would you expect people to just think, hmmm ... I don't know of any so I will just ignore this thread???

OP here, I'm a grown up and I don't have my head in the sand. I know perfectly well what the issues are with the circus. I also know what the animal rights issues are with the medications I give my child, the soap, shampoo and make up I use. It's my choice which I thankfully have the right to exercise. I respect everyone's opinion and point of view and also appreciate the PPs that actually addressed my question. Two and a half hours seems pretty long for a toddler but hopefully we can avoid a meltdown in the first hour at least.

We go to the Big Apple Circus- they are cruelty free. My toddler was totally freaked out by it. We barely made it in the tent and she was terrified. We left.

Well considering dog fights are against the law, I don't think people would be able to help much. You're going to have to do better than that.

"I'm headed to Puerto Rico and want to catch the cockfights--where can we go??? Also, puppy mill tours in Missouri?"

Better?

To OP's original question- one thing you might want to think about/be prepared for is an allergic reaction. A boyfriend in college decided to take me to the circus one year since I'd never been. I sometimes sneeze when around cats or dogs, but had no idea about the type of reaction I had at the circus. Felt like my throat was kind of closing, slowly but surely. I made it through the whole thing, but once outside and on the car ride home I could not get enough fresh air! Very strange experience to feel like your throat us slowly opening back up.

Maybe it was a freak thing with me, no idea. This was at the stadium armory by RFK in dc. Maybe that venue had extremely poor ventilation?? Just a heads-up.

Ok, well then consider this. Animal cruelty is also against the law, which is precisely the point. Ringling Bros. are masters of getting around these rules.

OP and others like her are fools.

Are you a vegetarian or only get your meat from 100% humane processes? I'm guessing not, so actually you're the fool.

Totally non-political issue I have with the circus: Man, it STINKS in there!

The circus scared the shit out of me when I was a kid (maybe 7 or 8). I had nightmares, and I wasn't an exceptionally sensitive kid.

I am going to buy 1000 tickets and hand them out

Everyone considering going to the circus should check out www.ringlingbeatsanimals.com
Any information that you have been given that claims that circuses aren't cruel to animals are lies fed to you by ringling so that they can steal your money.

Someone mentioned that animal rights organizations have paid former employees to give statements saying that the animals are abused, when they really are not. I don't know whether the former employees were paid or not, but I have seen the undercover footage and photos, and there is no doubt that it is abuse. Stop teaching your children to support evil practices. Go see a movie instead.
