I see no reason why, in a field of a dozen GOP candidates, we should pick someone cold enough to divorce a wife during cancer treatment. I get that he strayed and that happens. But to not see his wife through her ilness shows lack of compassion, commitment, and hell self-control. Those are character traits that are problematic in a leader. all he had to do was wait for the right time, but he couldn't do that.
Interesting point, pp. I have always had mixed feelings as to whether we should care if politicians have affairs. I mean, I have contempt for Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, and John Edwards (especially him because I supported his candidacy) but whether it makes a difference as to their ability to do their job is another question. And I should add that I do think it is significant when a politician claims to support "traditional" values and then has affairs. But you're right about Newt. It's not just a question of his morality. It shows a lack of self-control, which makes one wonder how he would handle himself as president.
