Another celeb couple expecting twins ...

Some people really like to think that people with twins "definitely had IVF," but that's just not the case. Sorry if that disappoints some of the PPs!

reference please.

Yes, and is it 40% for women over 40?

I (like many) find it refreshing when celebrities are frank and open about their infertility struggles. But I also understand why they may not want to be honest with the public about IVF or infertility. It is such a personal thing - and for some celebrities I would guess they feel like it makes them appear flawed or somehow less than perfect. I ABSOLUTELY don't believe that for a second, but think about the women who are likely lying about these things - JLo, Julia Roberts, Mariah...they are all trying to preserve an image that they have spent a lifetime building.

Don't forget to add Celine Dion (although I thinks she freely admitted to 5 failed IVFs before a success).

I saw Bill Rancic and Guillana were TTC in their reality show.

There are many couples struggling with IF on this board and beyond and most have decided to keep their struggle private. I don't know why we expect more of celebrities than ourselves. DH and I have been fairly open with family and close friends about our IF struggles, but I can't imagine broadcasting our IF story to everyone I've ever met and total strangers. Kudos to those celebs that have, but I'd think those of us on this board, many of whom haven't told parents or even best friends, would be understanding of another IF couple's desire for privacy.

Yes...it is PRIVATE medical health information.

If your doc let it fly with ALL of your private health information...you would be hiring a lawyer.

I think EVERYONE has a right to privacy regarding their medical health information...celebrity or not.

Really? Because everything I've read she denies doing IVF and says it was just accupunture that got her pregnant. I wish more celebs would be open about doing IVF. Still nice news for them though.

I agree. I read that she claimed to only have used acupuncture. Sorry, I think this is total BS. If I were a celebrity I would not admit to using donor eggs because it's a much more personal issue but I would definitely admit to IVF. It does a real disservice to regular people when celebrities over 40 do not admit to receiving treatment. Women get the sense that they can wait forever because so many celebrities over 40 seem to get pregnant and their pregnancies are always in the news. Also, getting pregnant with twins over 40 is highly unlikely w/o the use of donor eggs. I'm not saying impossible, but highly unlikely. That is, unless she had some earlier embies frozen.

Ok...I guess I would say, that in this day and age, with ALL the information out there telling women that they can NOT successfully delay child bearing--if women are STILL relying on actresses, singers, celebrities, and Hollywood to provide them with correct and truthful information about pregnancies and their reproductive health...we are a society in deep trouble.

Secondly, I am living proof that multiples pregnancies CAN and DO happen for women in their 40's using their own eggs (boy/girl twins from an IVF egg retrieval that occurred the day before my 42nd birthday). It is almost as offensive to me that everyone assumes I used donor eggs when I didn't...as it is offensive that people refuse to admit that they had some form of medical intervention to help them get pregnant.

I don't think there is a lot of information out there telling women about the risks of delaying childbirth. That's why the clinics are overloaded with very intelligent AMA women. On the other hand, every other day there seems to be a news story running about a 40-something celebrity having a child. These celebrities get far more attention than stories focused on reproductive health.

Also, I am very happy for you, PP. You post on here a lot and your story gives a lot of women hope but your story is more like winning the lottery than that of the average AMA poster. Every once in awhile someone does win the lottery, but most women never will.

I am the poster with the AMA twins...
I entirely AGREE that I won the lottery...and I have said this when anyone asks IRL. I have also appeared on a local medical health information show, and my DH and I said this multiple times during the interview. And we have helped my RE with his book, and stated it in the book.

We have been VERY open about our medical treatment and our blessing of having twins...and how it is absolutely OUT of the norm.

But I will say again...as women, we really need to get our medical information from somewhere other than Hollywood and celebrities.

And also...while I gave up my rights to keeping my medical care a private issue, because I believe in better educating those around me...I believe that everyone deserves the right to keep their medical care private for whatever reasons they desire to keep their medical care private.
