If you had to do it over again...would you spend as much as you did on your wedding?

Yes!! Spent less than $500 for the whole thing. But the best thing was sharing it with our family.

We had a big fancy wedding with all the trimmings--around $80-90K, all funded by my parents. Of course I think about what I could use the money for now but fortunately we are doing fine, and we have the most amazing memories of a wedding that was exactly what we wanted. We did get about $30K in gifts so we ended up ahead anyway.

Yes I really wanted the wedding we had and it made me very happy.

12:25 clearly bitter she did not have a decent wedding. Sorry for you, not sorry for your immature behavior, eye roller.

I don't understand the adults (old enough to get married) who had their parents pay - no matter what the circumstance. Wow.

It's called tradition, some cultures have them.

It is called tradition. I fully intend to pay part of the cost of my children's wedding. What is wrong with that?

LOL Wedding #1 was pushing that figure -- mostly due to family pressure than anything else
Wedding #2 was not even $1000 and I wouldn't change a thing.

I'm the OP. I guess I hadn't thought of parents paying (mine didn't, and it honestly escaped my mind that some people don't pay for their weddings).

I guess I would ask then people who did pay for their own weddings: do you regret how much you spent? I spent about $20 thousand. And now, with kids and real priorities, it seems incredibly frivolous.

We spent probably around $40 or $50K, and paid for it ourselves. It was a lot, but even more so because it was actually a pretty small wedding. The total includes a very nice honeymoon and travel costs for a number of people in my family who could not have afforded to attend otherwise.

It was an absolutely amazing weekend. I wouldn't change a thing.

I wondered how long it would take you to show up on this thread!

We spent 30k. I didn't want a wedding, wanted to elope to Mexico. But my mom (who was really laid back and never asked me for anything) really wanted me to have a wedding here and so we did it up. Had a blast, it was such fun, and my mom had the best time ever. She got sick with cancer 6 months later and died 3 months after that and I look back on my wedding as our last, great hurrah. So yeah, as much as I wish we had that money now, I don't regret it. It was totally worth it to have those memories of my mom.

Yes! Our wedding cost about 15-17K (has to tell exactly since we paid some, my parents paid some) IT was 7 years ago and just other the day friend was saying what a blast he had at our wedding. We lucked out and a fabulous band that really made the reception a party.

20K total for two celebrations in different countries. We had plenty left for house down payment. Hated the planning but no regrets about the money.
