Kelly as a boy's name?

Love it! Kelly was originally a boys name anyway, and I like it much better for a boy than a girl Kinda hate it for girls actually, it sounds prissy.

Kelly was originally a boys name.

I know one male Kelly and it suits him fine. Also knew a male Shannon in college and lordy, lordy that boy was confident in his masculinity!

Kelly fell out of the top 1000 boys' names in 2003 but had been up to #97 in 1968. It peaked at #17 in Utah in 1961.

Kelly peaked at #2 in Deleware in 1978. Kelly is falling in popularity for girls, but still more popular than Sasha, Cecilia, Presley, Mallory, Teagan, Heaven, Dakota, Tiffany, Macy...

I think there's a good chance your son will grow to hate his name and the experience that comes along with having it.

If you do use it (and i agree it seems compelling in your case and perhaps the fact you're giving it to him for good reason will resonate with your child and he will like his name so he can deal with any bullying better) then I'd give him a good strong masculine middle name that he could opt to use in the future instead.

Don't like Kelly for boys or girls.

The male Kelly I know isn't cute or athletic- he's bald and perpetually red.

Haha, same here. PPs need to keep in mind that Kelly Slater will not be well known in 20 years.
