did not test gifted

So what? It's not like his future is imperiled. Maybe it's because I'm not from here but what's the BFD about G&T? There are many types of intelligences and my kids will be successful no matter what school they go to.

Straight A's...Now there is a great chance he will not be in gifted cluster next year, 4th grade. It really seems like one bad day of testing is setting his path for next year. Any one else ever dealt with this type of thing. He will not be retested until next fall.

Straight A's do not equal giftedness. High Achieving and gifted are two very different things.

And why does it seem like everyone on this board thinks that a kid is doomed if they aren't labelled as gifted????
Gifted kids are no more likely to have successfull and happy lives than the rest of the world.

True, but one does not have to be gifted to do well in AAP. High achieving kids, like a lot of korean kids who come from korea and get trained, tutored, and crammed to death to get into AAP and TJ end up doing pretty well.

1. Does anyone know being NON-FCPS student applying for AAP with JUST WISC-IV test results would be ok with out having CoGAT & NNAT?
2. Does anyone can help us with a WISC-IV testing center in FC?
3. Can anyone tell us the accepted WISC-IV score for NON-FCPS for the AAP in 2010-2011?

Sounds like somebody is a bit peeved because their child's gilded spot in GT/AAP has been absconded by a merited Asian kid. Sour grapes indeed.

Agree. Who are we to assume that these kids are trained and crammed to death to get into AAP since you cannot prepare for testing. My DD has plenty of Korean-American friends at her AAP and they are just everyday average American girls who likes to giggle, pop music, eletronic games and shopping. None, again, none of them are ESL and most of them are American citizens. So what if their parent's are tougher than rest of us. Maybe we should do whatever they are doing to motivate their kids.

Yes, they are crammed to death like robots. It's not the worst kept secret, but actually reported and known that a lot of korean families break up where the father stays in korea and the mom brings the kids to NoVA just because of TJ. It's sad, and many of the kids resent this when they grow up.

You are talking about very small group of Koreans, very wealthy and elite class of people who can afford to bring the kids to USA while dad stays in Korea. How do you know that they are crammed to death like robots? Maybe kids are very motivated. I lived in Asia for couple of years and that is the way of life for kids in most of Asian countries. Most of the Koreans are hard working people with very good family values and ethics. They are honest tax paying citizens of America. So stop with all this bashing.

Why would a foreigner pay taxes if the wife has no job here? The husband is paying taxes in Korea.

I guess you don't know much about koreans and their cram schools.

I don't think there's any beef towards the Koreans and their methods. It's just being called as it is.

In response to 16:51:

We moved here from out of state and got in with just the WISC. No Cogat or Nalgieri; no portfolio or recommendations, either. I'm glad I hadn't seen these boards before we moved, as I would have been way too stressed about the whole thing.
