For months now, Gray supporters on this site have been belittled, called welfare queens, told they were incompetent, etc. I have personally had conversations with Jeff about my complete astonishment at how racist many of the posters were when it came to Gray supporters. I voted for Gray. I know more about Fenty than you can even imagine. I know about things that have not been presented to the public, like the budget, policies and practices of the Fenty administration. Even with this information, I would never have called a Fenty supporter names. If you choose to support a candidate without really researching him, that's up to you.
I am an African-American woman who recently moved here from a southern state and saw more racism on this site than I ever experienced before. I want the Fenty write-in campaign to go away so that maybe we can heal. Although I know that we cannot since people who write on this site do so anonymously and would never actually let their neighbors know how they really feel.
This is sad, really. None of this sounds real. And you have posted almost these exact words before. And how
how do you know who anyones' neighbors are here? You don't.
And even if you if in the "imaginary world in your head" thought you knew who people's neighbors were, how do you know they wouldn't agree and support Fenty? They probably do. Economically significant chunks of the DC population (both black and white) are very supportive of Fenty. It is true that more highly educated, wealthier people voted for Fenty. If you live among such people,
maybe you're the one who should be more concerned about what your neighbors think your politics are.
As for supporting Gray after the election, that will be a situational personal decision for the Fenty supporters. If DC were an actual
STATE, which it had a chance of being with the previous administration where it had some national credibility with Rhee, etc., (a powerful, educated DC is dangerous thing) there would be some logic in forming some sort of coalition. As it stands now, DC has reverted to "a plantation in revolt mentality". As a right thinking white man, I will applaud the chaos, make my back room deals with the devil--and be the white prince on horseback to save them from themselves and reap profit for my own interests.
It's just a win-win for me.
