Son Admitted to Princeton From Waitlist. Need Help Deciding

Princeton is so much more prestigious than Duke. Anyone saying otherwise knows they are wrong.

Is Princeton strong on biomedical engineering? I wasn’t aware that they even offered it as a major—is he willing to major in something related? Also, obviously Princeton has no medical school which might factor in, depending on his interests.

Princeton’s great but Duke is known for biomedical engineering.

Congrats! What a great problem to have. I'd say visit both campuses one more time if possible and trust his gut. Both are incredible schools. The social connections he already made at Duke matter but Princeton's physics program is world class. Either way he can't go wrong.

They’re both great schools.

If it were my kid, I think they’d pick Princeton, especially sitting at 5/30… even if some connections have been made it’s still the tail end of the school year. Decision day was a month ago, not like it’s late August right before move in and they got off the waitlist.

Plus, $8k cheaper

I guess the ultimate question is the fit. They’re both very different. Go with fit.

Pick princeton.

and I went to Duke and loved it, would pick it over all but about 7 schools: five of the ivies and stanford, MIT.

lol...this has to be a troll post. Princeton for cheaper than Duke and you have to think about it?

Come on, troll harder.

Unless your son is going to be on the basketball team, this shouldn't be a hard decision -- go to Princeton.

Even if your son is going to be on the basketball team — go to Princeton.

I just graduated from Princeton (Great Class of 2026!). The best 4 years of my life. I studied ORFE. Made friends for life. This school was incredible and I can't rave about it enough. Couldn't stop crying all last week.

Princeton feels like too good of an opportunity to pass up.

Does he feel this way? It has to be him.
He goes with his gut. If it's completely his decision, he will be at peace with his decision.

People who say that Princeton is obviously better than Duke haven’t set a foot on the Duke campus. I had no idea about how cool the school is until I visited. The students are visibly happy there and have a sense of community, the facilities are top notch and the campus is stunning. My DC is waitlisted at HYPSM. It’d a tough decision if they are offered a spot. Had we not visited the campus, it’d a no brainer as some are saying. Duke is really special.

What you are going through is called "coping."

This post, like the Harvard waitlist post earlier is obviously fiction. Why are people engaging?

It’s so weird that people do this. My guess is that you just are looking for a place to anonymously brag a little bit.

Because it's interesting to throw the question out there and see what kind of replies you get and the logic behind them??
I don't get people like you who are so rigid and literal.

Nah. It's just odd.
