Good, ignore them. Now there’s two!
You deserve alimony, the house, and part of his retirement.

Disagree. That’s not fair to him or his future partner.

Disagree. Not her concern. Divorce laws on 50/50 wee alimony and child support are designed to protect kids and ensure the mother gets half, is stable (which in turn means kids stability) and transfers at least part of former marital estate that to her natural children

What if your kids are over 18? In VA and wondering if that would still give me alimony for life? Married over 20 years.

OP are you my sibling?
Anyhow, while she got the house & alimony .. She still had to get a job…. After twenty years plus years of being a SAHM

Good luck.

VA has a formula on line. You can figure out the basics yourself

It’s would be her concern as his partner. The mother should be able to fend for herself and her children, not rely on an ex. Alimony should not be a thing. Poor guy.

Nope until the laws are not changed she gets what marital contract implies. Spouses make decisions based on that not on what you think it fair.

VA has indefinite support but not sure how often it is given

If that is the law wouldn’t it always be given? What would make it not given?

As a lawyer who has gone through a divorce . . . .

I would do a consult with at least three divorce attorneys who spend the majority of their time practicing in the county where you live. My understanding is that judges vary greatly in VA in terms of these types of decisions, where the outcomes can be very different depending on what county you file in.

The law says there are some dozen factors to consider. I hope it is indefinite. I gave up a lot for him.

It's a totally fine and understandable preference, but own it. You were relieved that husband's high salary could accommodate that lifestyle preference even if it could potentially end up in a result like this. Well, welcome to the result...

Time to start taking accountability for your choices and preferences and, ultimately, life by probably getting a job now rather than fretting too much over a spousal support settlement.

Bless your heart.

Any chance you can work things out and salvage the marriage?

The future partner should fend for herself and her kids. Not mooch on divorced dada who have responsibility to their children from first marriage
