Bucknell drinking

Anonymous
My daughter went to Bucknell and had a fantastic experience and she did not drink, and still doesn’t. Her last year she lived in a house on campus called “Calvin and Hobbes” which had kids that didn’t drink, but wasn’t a sober house. You don’t have to be part of the party culture if you don’t want to. There are lots of things to do and lots of kids to hang out with.

DD it’s not my only child and I am not naïve to the fact that drinking goes on in college. I personally went to a very party heavy college and drank a lot. I have another child who almost certainly will choose to drink in college.
My question was, if I have a child that is going to Bucknell and does not want to drink, is that the wrong choice for her? Or are there a lot of other things to do besides drinking? She would be a college athlete, but I know that sometimes college athletes are the biggest partiers! She wants to get involved in Christian organizations, loves to hang out and be social, but is not a partier.

This is exactly how my son is, not at Bucknell though. I think he would be bothered if it was everywhere all the time and in your face. He found it annoying to be around drunk people, I know others that don’t drink don’t mind it. Good luck op, your eyes are wide open and you’re right that athletes can be big partiers too.

My son is going to another school, also rural with a big Greek scene, and is not interested in drinking. I wonder about this too, though hopefully he will find his people. He is an athlete and VERY focused on physical fitness and health.
