What resources do the Ws get that other schools don't? I think the biggest difference in the schools is the parent community/cohort. And, lower income schools receive additional resources from the federal government

Yeah, WJ has for years been the most overcrowded school. And they didn’t advertise it but when they were having all those problems with bathroom access it was because McPS only gave them about half their allotment of security guards. Admin had to go back mid year and make a big stink just to get th usual per student allotment and I’m not even sure they go that.

Have any of you "oh the W schools get everything" people looked at a map? How in the world would they make any substantive boundary changes to Whitman and Churchill?

Security is a big problem when you have as many portables as WJ has.

Any thoughts around how they will use Blueprint for Maryland as leverage to make holistic changes to Whitman , Wj and Churchill?

I know many in these communities have been worried about the boundary study, but i think they should be more worried about the State coming with their equity goals

What are you talking about? You've made a bunch of accusations without any evidence. None of this is an issue, including using Wootton as a way of ensuring equity. (If anything, their solution is pandering to Wootton by giving them a new building-- highly desired by teachers and about half of the cluster) at the expense of more diverse school that was higher on the list for school improvements.

not an issue???? Wooten parents just filed a lawsuit.....so, yeah, i'd say its an issue

Wootton parents enjoy being 'victims.' They only got 75% of what they want so they hire lawyers. Shame.

The regional program is all about equity. Don’t kid yourself.

They just finished a boundary study where that theoretically could have happened, but did not.

Ah the old we don't like what you did to us so we want you to mess with other people too. If the powers at be were so inclined to jump at your ideas why didn't you get what you wanted that made you so bitter in the first place OP

No. The term "equity" has no actual meaning to MCPS staff. They use the word a lot but never define it or explain how what they are doing advances equity (what kind of equity? Racial equity? Economic equity?). And that's because they have no plan or interest in advancing equity.

... uh, what? The State defers to local boards for boundary studies. In fact, one of the reasons why the Save Wootton filing / lawsuit is going to fail is because the State BoE's standard is:
For decisions of the local board involving a local policy, the local board’s decision is considered prima facie correct, and the State Board may not substitute its judgment for that of the local board unless the decision is arbitrary, unreasonable, or illegal. COMAR 13A.01.05.06A.

How? Lower income schools still get limited glasses and with student numbers going down it will be reduced. They expect families to have their kids go cross county and at best provide them transportation to the home school which limits to walkers or parents able to drive if that school isn’t accessible by public bus. That doesn’t include pick up and drop off for sports, clubs and other activities. Most of the stem programs are at the richer schools. We couldn’t make that work. My high school student goes back and forth to school twice a day for done things so one child, four trips.

So, how is this equity?

It’s only maybe 30-49 families or community members. Most want the move.
