Favorite domestic trips for the 6-10 age group

+1 for Grand Tetons at this age. There is so much wildlife and they were fascinated by it.

Hawai’i is also magical at this age. Any of the islands, but the Big Island is my favorite for this age.

Another vote for Bar Harbor/Acadia. Portland is not far either if you want a little more city vibe for a day or so. Chicago was a big hit last year for our 7 year old, too.

Hawaii
Disney
Chicago
New York City

The main thing is don't overschedule and do stuff you also enjoy. Kids like anything thats different.

Alaska and California (SF, Yosemite, Santa Barbara) were also great. Puerto Rico also great. Hawaii is phenomenal but you can save that for when they are harder-to-please teens!

I’ll also be cliche and say disney world because it’s true.

What activities did you enjoy with young kids in Yellowstone and Tetons? Planning a trip this summer!

I'm a different poster but took my then 5 and 9 year olds a few years ago. We enjoyed the breakfast boat ride in Teton- boat us out to a small island on the lake at sunrise and there was coffee, breakfast foods, etc on the island set up for us. Plenty of easy hikes around Teton also. We stayed at Jackson Lake Lodge and my kids, of course, said the best part was the pool. For me and DH, the best part was we got a cabin room with a balcony and enjoyed early morning coffee/ late evening drinks with gorgeous mountain views while kids were sleeping. In yellowstone, honestly there was way more time in the car than I wanted- tons of traffic, and while Grand Prismatic Spring was one of the more beautiful and unique things I'd ever seen in my life, it was PACKED and we had to walk down the boardwalk in a crowd like we were on an assembly line. We stayed at Old Faithful Lodge so at least we didn't have to worry about traffic around taht area and I'd 100000% recommend staying there- that way you can really enjoy the area without worrying about parking and leaving before dinner. We rented bikes and took plenty of moderate hikes around there. Yes it was crowded, but also had a lot to do. I will say our favorite parts of yellowstone were pulling over randomly and having picnics by rivers or walking around seeing wildlife on our own, with no one else in sight. And then we stayed way up in the Roosevelt cabins (way north) and that was pretty deserted too. The cowboy covered wagon ride to a BBQ dinner that leaves from there was a huge hit, also.

Tons of hiking (free), from 3/4 mule loops like Wonderland and Ships Harbor to longer and flat (around Jordan Pond) to hiking up Bubble Rock to amazing views and eating Blueberries while you hike (Flying Mountain) to difficult hikes (Beehive). And rock climbing and sea kayaking and boat tours that range from educational (learn about sand dollars, lobsters sea cucumbers and other critters on the ocean floor) to taking you to small islands to walk around (Little Cranberry) to seeing the wild life. And there's tons of kitch in Bar Harbor, and things to do on Rainy days like the Lobster Hatchery, Auto Museum, Abbe Museum and bowling.

I should retire and volunteer at the CVB on MDI, but I don't think they have one, and, there's winter to consider. But I'd happily live there every May-September

And the best part is it’s so mild and not humid. I have one kid who is really heat sensitive and will get nauseated and dizzy if it’s too hot. she tolerates outdoors activities well as long as she doesn’t overheat and Acadia/Bar Harbor is perfect for that.

Sleeping Bear and the beaches along western MI in the summer. Sliding on dunes, paddling, hiking, fishing, swimming, ice cream and cherries, etc.

We had a great trip to Maine when my kids were (I think) 8 and 11. Hiking in Acadia, Bat Harbor, lobster rolls and ice cream, then a second location on a lake in the puddle of nowhere, with swimming and a row boat, more hiking (with wild blueberries along the trail), more ice cream, a petting zoo where you could feed goats. It was a favorite trip for them.

Middle of nowhere, not puddle of nowhere, though the latter is sort of poetic.
