Kudos to HOCO for even creating this statement. Prior to the 33 group, I don’t think a HOCO team had ever come close to a Hero’s green team, let alone beat them, now Hero’s is hoping to overtake them eventually! lol |
True statement (are you HOCO director, parent or coach?). HOCO as a club is off the radar nationally and locally—ranked 83rd nationally, with 10 Maryland teams (did not count DC/VA) ranked higher than them. They have almost no recruiting history and chops and experience, and haven’t spent years building relationships with college coaches and programs in the ways that Hero’s, M&D, Skywalker’s, Capital and probably even Coppermine and Maryland United have done. Not sure what their numbers of sending girls to a top 25 team or top 30 or top 10 team are in the last 5 years or decade. It’s probably close to non-existent or very spotty at best. Phenom girls can be recruited from lower level clubs, even outside of hotbeds, but we aren’t talking about rare phenoms but rather the work of successfully addressing the recruitment of 20 girls each year. In good news, youth girls lacrosse is exploding everywhere and notably in Howard County. These girls aren’t staying around for rec and want somewhere to go. HOCO has a little advantage by forming a younger non-NGLL team that plays in MYLA and showering those girls with pink flamingo lax gear and gifts to get them tied into the club. [Hero’s has the other advantage with a well formed developmental program that funnels 60 girls to their Green and White and has select girls play up the year prior.] In this context, HOCO is going to continue to get a crop of good girls moving forward (with new-to-the-scene parents possibly believing the ‘34 team is indicative of the club) and we’re going to see strong ‘35 and ‘36 and ‘37 clubs all over the DMV, not just hyper focused on M&D and Hero’s. HOCO has a real chance to do a fast climb up the rankings from the bottom. I mean, come on, Integrity is ranked 30th and CC Lax is ranked 45th. HOCO being 83rd just shows how it’s been considered Rec+ (like SAC Select) all these years, until the ‘34 team decided to go there (probably because they could come in as an almost fully formed squad which they couldn’t do elsewhere). Overall, I think the DMV teams are just going to get stronger and stronger. With so many teams in Anne Arundel county, I’m wondering what happens there. Will Maryland United be able to consolidate that talent like they have in past years? Thinking no. Next, how much room is there in Howard County for top teams (M&D as a club seems to practice in both Baltimore County and Howard County)…. Final question, does any of this even matter lol. Probably just fodder for bored parents (I’m biding time on a plane). As others have said, your kid’s a star until puberty hits and all bets are off. |
| HOCO 34 would beat the best 2033 teams in the country |
They probably would give them a good game. Have they scrimmaged the 2033 HoCo team? |
heard they’ve beaten Hoco ‘33 more than once, but I’m not sure how they’d fare against the top 5 ‘33 teams. Honestly I think this says something about the weak ‘33 year. Not the strongest. Same with ‘34, generally. This will be a good case study on a low level club in the hottest area of a hotbed trying to ditch their “advanced rec” status and escape the bottom of the club rankings, after having an almost fully formed excellent ‘34 team and coach fall into their lap. Let’s see what has happened in 5 years. They seem to know they need to follow it up by strong ‘35 and ‘36 teams. Rumor has it that Hoco’s younger teams (‘33 down) practice 3 times a week to get an edge. |
Lots of rumors flying around about 4th graders!!! |
| Rumor has it HOCO 34 practices 3-4x more than other teams |
They are all home schooled, they practice 6 hours a day and their homework is wall ball. |
|
Rumor has it HOCO 34 drinks 3-4x more water than other teams |
| Something is off with that coach and team |
Why do you think ‘33 is a weak year? Not that I disagree but would be interested to hear more. |
| The 33 class in general is weak. The talent skipped from 32 to 34 |
| I love that you psychos are posting about elementary school lacrosse. I expect great things from this thread! |
Let's blame covid |
Pure gold! |
