Individual coaches who are exceptional teachers

There are far too many swimmers/parents. If anything, this type of thread would help people know whether to go to a certain club/switch clubs.

Until you post the name of a beloved coach and pages of people pile on about how they're actually awful trash and that club is trash and NCAP or bust.

Nope, not playing this game.

PS. For all the great coaches out there, we appreciate all you do for our kids. Not all of us subscribe to tiger parenting principles

I’ve never swum competitively so not able to judge which coaches are the best. I do know my swimmers and their friends from various clubs in PVS have been happy and have gotten fast.

+1000. Plus spots already fill up super quickly for the best coaches at our club. I’m not giving some internet rando my closely guarded secrets! IYKYK. The end.

This is the epitome of DC/NoVA/Md suburban culture. Eye roll x 1000

Evan Wrenn at Machine is a tremendous technical coach. I’m curious about Jared Diallo — he seems to be really good at developing swimmers (Sea Devils South Run and Fox Hunt). Can anyone share their experiences with him? We are thinking about a move to a club closer to home, and Sea Devils South Run fits the bill.

Dory Halbe NCap (she’ll make you fast but she’s MEAN)
Chris Schlegel- ASA
Roger Dent- Toll
Kevin Fischer- Toll

I can’t speak to the two TOLL coaches, but Dory and Chris are the best of the best. I take issue with the assertion that Dory is mean, at least from my experience. She coached both of my kids and we all love her. She is *firm*. She does not tolerate BS, but she has a unique ability to do so without being mean, IMO. Not many people have that. I understand that your experience may vary.

30x50 fly every Friday

That’s an invitation for shoulder injuries if I ever heard one.

NCAP-GP prefers 20x200 Fly

Blair Piddington and Evan Wrenn at Machine are the complete package. They care about the swimmers individually, including their health and mindset. Unlike some other coaches I’ve heard about, the swimmers never leave practice crying. It’s uplifting and a very positive experience.

Wondered about him too. Also, since he left Fox Hunt for a bigger NVSL team, will he stay at Sea Devils, or will he also switch to a bigger N Arlington/McLean club team?

He also coaches at Robinson High and works (or worked) at West Springfield High so his Fairfax County connections extend beyond Fox Hunt and South Run. Will definitely be harder to recreate the feedback loop between summer and club teams if they aren't in close proximity though.

Agree! They are such a blessing to our swimmers. Wouldn’t trade them for the world.

He has expressed a few times that he does not intend on leaving Sea Devils.

Maybe his new summer team will follow him to the Sea Devils. I don’t know if or where most DR kids swim in the winter.

Ok we have coaches from NCAP, Machine and Sea Devils shouted out on here. Marlins? Fish? Fairfax Foxes? Makos? AAC? Hydra? Moon Aquatic Club?
