Safety should come first. The principal should have empathize that.

Agree that the fight is a problem.
However, the fight is over and the video is forever. Especially, multiple videos.

How about the message should be "don't fight in school" instead of making it seem like having a phone in school is felony.

Are you so sheltered that you don't know that fights happen, that kids frequently get told not to fight in school, and that it's your job as a parent to ensure your child isn't getting in fights, isn't standing around watching fights, and is absolutely not recording them?

I live in the Carson-Oakton district. "Our" kids certainly are not immune to this type of behavior. While none of my kids have ever been in a fight, I'm not naive enough to think it could never happen. Teenage brains are nuts, and teens do really stupid stuff, including fighting.

Right, so it doesn't matter where your kids go to middle school. Fights happen everywhere. Even Cooper-Langley. Even TJ. Carson is a great school, the student population is great. Even the brown kids like mine.
