Experience with UVA waitlist

I am not sure if out of state students gets better chance to get off WL. In my DD’s case, we are in state for Art/science school. He always wants to do business, but UVa wise offer clearly states he can apply mcintire when transfer back to main campus. We just keep him on the WL. And never heard any movements until July. He has to turn down another school, rearrange lots of things… But he is very happy in UVA and applying mcintire now.

Wise program, but in the end chose another school and is very happy. The YIW program seems great for those who Really want UVA and are willing to take an alternate path to Charlottesville, but that can be an obstacle for many 18 year olds who don’t want to transfer to another campus after 1 year. Still, it’s a great option for some students. The biggest concern DD had was uncertainty over how AP credits would be handled at UVA. DD was able to have Sophomore status at her university with the possibility of graduating early (and saving money) or pursuing a double major or accelerated masters program.

What was the AP concern? My freshman came from a private high school and didn't even take many AP exams and got 28 credits from UVA. She could graduate in 3 years if she wanted to.

There’s no way to know in advance which group will get off the waitlist. They said it’s basically ten waitlists.

What are the ten categories? Thanks.

If you haven’t read through this, it covered everything. Several years of statistics, too.

I'm very confused and can't find a clear answer on the website.

Some people on Reddit say that you can't apply to the McIntire if you start through the UVA Wise pathway, but the UVA website doesn't seem to state that anywhere unless I missed it.

I'm not sure whether UVA recently changed the policy or if there is misinformation circulating online.

This is OP. Kid is female in state applying for engineering, so Wise is not an option. She definitely understands that waitlist is highly improbable and will likely move on to VT (visiting this weekend). She still really wants UVA so sticking with this whole awful process, at least for now.

NP. Agreed! Does she know what type of engineering she’s most interested in?

With as many folks that added their hat to the ring with no supplements this year, UVA's yield could be off meaning more WL movement than usual. Will be interesting....
