| Does anyone have any real world experience with UVA’s waitlist? Just curious if your child was accepted and when they were notified. Definitely moving onto #2, but staying on the waitlist for now. |
| Easy to search here and on Reddit |
| Last year, there were 6,759 students on the waitlist of which 242 students were offered spots. The years prior saw even fewer admits. |

UVA is a long shot. Waitlists in general are a long shot. Many never move.
We were tortured by a few waitlists last year and it ruined our late spring and summer. Some kept stringing kids on until August ("you've made our latest round of cuts to our extra special smaller waitlist...." And another: "We would like you to send us one more update...and then one more.." Do whatever you can to encourage your kid to move on emotionally and mentally. |

Does UVA still offer waitlist students the option to do one year at UVA Wise and then transfer to Charlottesville? If dead set on UVA that is an option.
If it were my kid, I would rather see them learn to love a school that offered admission. Every case is different. |
| It really depends on the year. |
yes, for in-state and Arts and Sciences only. |
| My DD class of 26 was waitlisted (offered year at wise) declined Wise and never got off the waitlist. That was year they had EA to reject and waitlist only (no deferrals) |
| Consider it a rejection and move on |
I know a kid who did this, they are happily at UVA now. |
With this UVA WISE pathway, can a student still apply to the McIntire School of Commerce? Is there any disadvantage? |
Yes. Year in Wise is a gem program. |
| Our experience was that our son did not get off the waitlist in 2024 (standard strong candidate from very high-performing FCPS school). |
In 2023 my student was on waitlist. The few accepted met a very specific need..I believe it was OOS kinesiology majors. No in-state, no engineering etc. |

It's been quite a while for us and times have changed, but our first kid was deferred ED and then admitted RD and our second waitlisted RD and then admitted in early June. The kid had already accepted a spot at a top OOS flagship and attended orientation. They elected to go to UVA and never looked back.
The whole process is unpredictable, though. The year before our second kid got in they took virtually nobody off the WL. The year the kid got in they took a few hundred. |
