I agree “last legs” is hyperbole, but within 12 months I think SW will be a shadow of its former self. They have eliminated any reason for travelers to choose them over another airline. So will they just compete on price? |
SW is financially doing very well. I was very unhappy with the recent changes but am starting to think they were not a crazy call, from a business perspective. So far, I’m sticking with them. |

At DCA, largest carrier by flights/gates seems to be AA. DL has several flights to/from ATL and one daily round trip to/from SLC. UA has several flights to EWR and ORD, plus a daily round trip to SFO.
At IAD, largest carrier by flights/gates seems to be UA. AA and DL have some hub city flights. Unless your workplace has a business arrangement with a specific preferred air carrier, pick which airport you want use and then pick an airline. |
| Bummer! United has its hub at Dulles, but it's expensive, and with Spirit still trying to emerge from bankruptcy, it's hard to lose the lower-cost competitors. |
I’m curious to see what happens when all the current companion passes expire and all the credit card holders have to pay their annual fees again or cancel. |

United's hub is IAD.
American's hub is DCA Southwest's hub is BWI If you want to pick a preferred airline, do it based on that.. if you fly to a variety of destinations. |
