But they stopped by a coffee shop, where Kate made a cappuccino for William, who refused to drink it because it had caffeine. (Does Kate not know his preferences after 20 years? Were decaf beans and/or tea not available? Wouldn't someone in the public eye know to take Kate's coffee graciously and pretend to take a sip, then just hold onto it?) Then they stopped by a brewery where Kate refused to drink the beer but made what sounded like a passive agressive aside about William's love of cider (he's known to like a tipple).

Who schedules these things that one or the other refuses to participate in? And why can't the Waleses bother to pretend to sip what they're offered, if not for each other (Kate made Will's coffee), then to help the businesses they're visiting? Wouldn't stopping by a tea shop have made more sense?

Apparently it's a coffee shop that does job training for homeless people. I hate to say it, but maybe that's why he didn't take the drink.

He knows how to pretend to drink. All princes know how to keep from being poisoned.

Either they don’t live together or they have the help make everything so she genuinely would never have a need to know. I could see it going either way. But a lot of BRF couples don’t live with each other full time.

Interesting. If reports are to be believed, they don't employ a cook or a butler, or very many staff at all beyond the obvious house/grounds keepers and a nanny.

I never believed that they all lived in Adelaide Cottage. That house is too small.

My theory is that it was available and near the queen at the end of her life, and they thought they could slum it without household staff. It also wasn't their only home. I think it was a nice idea but ultimately didn't feel comfortable for them when they could easily have something bigger. Who knows, maybe he even thought he could create a contrast with his brothers life and spending? It was a surprising choice...

I mean, alcohol never really benefits us.

Understood but I know people who are germophobes and wouldn't eat at a place like that. I don't think it's rational, and I'm sure it's a clean business, but I was just making a guess. I just find it so surprising he couldn't even take one sip and then carry it until passing it off to a handler. And I don't believe Kate wouldn't know he only drinks decaf (if that's even true ).

She didn't use the word "cancer," she just said "my diagnosis." Which could refer to Crohn's or something else. The distinction is important because there's a whole debate in the UK about how she obviously went through something in 2024, but what was it.

She came out and said it was cancer. She got planned abdominal surgery and the palace made a statement at the time that she didn't have cancer. A few months later she did a video announcing she had cancer, that her doctors didn't believe she had cancer at the time of surgery, and that she sat on the news a few months while figuring out how and when to tell her children. And she was roasted/criticized across the world in the interim period where she wasn't working but the public didn't know she had cancer.

They always say the staff doesn’t live in the homes with them. But they have 60 staff, so obviously they’re living nearby or commuting in.

+1 she has to be restricting her food.

She's known to be a healthy eater and unusually active. Tennis, skiing, swimming, etc. If she's cleaned up her diet even further post-cancer, I'm not surprised she dropped weight.

I really hate it when Kate's fangirls portray her being--objectively--severely underweight as "elegant" or "healthy and active." Whether she's still sick from cancer treatment or Crohn's disease, or she's suffering from an ED, this sort of rationalization is just terrible.

I didn't say one word about her appearance. She is known to eat whole foods and do sports. She was already thin. If she has cut even more things out of her diet after her cancer diagnosis (and who knows what meds she takes now), I'm not surprised she lost weight.

THis is SUCH an annoying phrase that is now trendy. What is everyone else eating? Half foods? The only other thing more obnoxious than this is the constant yammering about eating "clean", because everyone else is obviously eating partial and dirty food.

There's a literal store called Whole Foods that's been open over 30 years. It's not a trendy word lady.

DP. Again, it’s not what she eats but the fact that, for whatever reason, she manifestly doesn’t eat enough of it to support whatever sports and hiking you’re alleging does.

On the one hand, the future of the British monarchy needs a couple like Will and Kate. Boring, predictable, dependable with a solid family. I really do think they are harmless and their boring, dependable family life is exactly what the British monarchy needs.

On the other hand...I hope she and the press cool it with her cancer thing.Just almost two years later, we saw what happened to another youngish lady with a loving family and small kids (Tatiana Schlossberg) who really had cancer. After watching (from very afar), Kate's "cancer" thing just seems so benign.

I don't think anyone knows what she does or doesn't do for food/exercise/medicine. If you believe the press, she goes on ski holidays. She also recently discussed swimming for exercise. I haven't read that she hikes, but perhaps she does. It's good that she doesn't drink anymore and hopefully she can grow healthier as she heals. I don't know what else you want. Nobody has said she looks elegant or aspirational. She's very very thin.

Actually, the more obnoxious thing that people will announce is that they are a "Foodie". Every time I hear someone proclaim it, I think how pretentious they are being.

I’m sorry to say I agree. She said “cancer had been present” and that she was receiving preventive (adjuvant) therapy. Three months later she announced she was “cancer free!” and started telling chemo patients to maximize sunlight (very bad advice). Two years later, it’s starting to read like they’re trying to deflect from Andrew.
