| Yup, I went through this. I made two big piles in each room - trash and donate, and had someone periodically come pick them up (the realtor had a guy) so my mother didn't try to reclaim items. For all I know they trashed the donate stuff too. Key was for my mother to not be in the room when I was making the piles because she would pick up every little thing and say that someone must want it. She definitely believed I was being too harsh with the piles but it was an entire 4 BR house to go through. 3 years later she still brings it up so I remind her how nice it was to donate to people who are able to use the stuff. |
