What gets submitted to college is final grade for each year. Semester grades are not reported except for Senior Mid year GPA and Grades after Q2

I don’t think our school does this. Each semester has its own grade, final exam, and GPA. Cumulative GPA is made up of all the semester grades

+1
Same as my child’s school

2 B's in 200 level dual enrollment foreign language. All core classes were honors, AP, or dual enrollment with A's. Got into Purdue with 1/2 tution merit scholarship.

Bear in mind that Engineering is going to be different than UMd general admissions. Much more difficult.

Intended major within engineering matters.

OP. Ha seems like my DC is bringing more Bs in Junior year. So in total it’s going to be 7 Bs(9th-11th grade) All honors classes, 9 AP and 1 DE. Bleak chances for Purdue, DC’s target school. Can DC dream of VT?

4 Bs, the rest A's. In at VT and UMD. Great ECs including internship that match to major (Business). Went test optional at both.

This really doesn’t mean anything without high school context, what classes the kid takes, what years the Bs are, where the GPA falls in the peer school group, what the major might be, how the rest of the app looks. Mine didn’t apply to those schools but both had high GPAs, extensive leadership, solid essays and recs, and mostly great results even at their reach schools with a few Bs in 11th in AP classes. Schools like to see an upward trajectory of grades though in general.

I don’t know about this. Our school does semester grades. My teen’s transcript shows each semester grade and the cumulative GPA is made up of all the semesters.

This is school and teacher dependent. Not all have grade inflation. My child has a B every year of high school. High SAT score. Teachers are tough graders. No extra credit or any of this “retaking” tests I hear about on DCUM. Public school outside of DMV.

Wow, so confident yet uninformed. You must go to a grade inflated public school. FCPS? This is 100% not the normal way of reporting grades. Transcripts at most schools show Semester 1, Semester 2, Final grade.

In public school, only final grades matter. Never heard or seen mid-year grades reported. How odd!

Many schools report grades both semesters and final. Again the context of your school is how you are judged.

My kids have attended three different DC area private high schools. One co-ed and the other two are single sex. All 3 show semester grades and final grade.
