Coming from DCPS public middle, not Deal
Unhooked, legacy at one of these
Grades: Straight A grades
Test scores: GDS Maret and Sidwell don't accept tests - no HSPT, ISEE, or SSAT required (GDS looked at DCPS test scores including CAPE and MAP, Maret no tests, Sidwell administered their own test)
Got in to all 3

I guess choosing Sidwell?

Why is that? I like Maret out of those 3.

Grades: all A’s
HSPT: 99
NoVA Catholic K-8 since K

Accepted at BI and DJO
Rejected from Seton in Manassas

We knew Seton was a long shot given their popularity and limited number of seats for 9th. She’s off to BI with a great scholarship. We considered Visi, but the distance from us combined with cost put us off in the end. I think she would have liked it though.

Coming from FCPS. Applied to GDS, Maret, Potomac, Sidwell, and Madeira. DD is disappointed but our local public is where she will remain.

She is also 99% on testing.

This sounds like it was a brutally competitive year for admissions.

Odd collection. Did Madeira actually reject or did you decide not to go there. This type of application would have been a shoe in last year. The others you list get tons of fantastic applicants so no surprises there.

I feel like it's been that way since COVID. And just anecdotally from our circle, seems like several students who got scholarships and financial aid from other schools got nothing from GC. The whole process is so arbitrary.

I think it was. From our Catholic K-8, historically only kids with extreme disciplinary issues would get rejected from any of the diocesan schools. This year at least two girls who are good students with no disciplinary issues were rejected by BI. They’re not Catholic, but that was never an issue in the past.

If GC is Good Counsel, I rarely hear of anyone outside of certain athletes receiving money.
