What does hooked / unhooked mean?

On this forum, it means connected in some way. People have given different examples like political connections, donors, knowing the board at schools, exceptional talent in sports, legacy etc. Basically a kid who is hooked has a perceived edge due to these types of connections.

Coming from DCPS public middle, not Deal
Unhooked, legacy at one of these
Grades: Straight A grades
Test scores: GDS Maret and Sidwell don't accept tests - no HSPT, ISEE, or SSAT required (GDS looked at DCPS test scores including CAPE and MAP, Maret no tests, Sidwell administered their own test)
Got in to all 3

I guess choosing Sidwell?

Same with my DD, last year. She turned down both SR and Visi, and is very happy at SJC. Make sure she gives consideration to the Cadet Corps Leadership Program - it's an amazing program that will give her another notch up when it's time for college application.
