| MYS sounds fun at parties |
| My daughter (who does not play for McLean) her best friend plays for McLean 2014 and accepted an offer to play again next year. The parents told me they had to accept an offer in December before they could even try out anywhere else. They feel held hostage by the club and are planning to leave next year when the landscape settles with all the age group changes. |
We were looking at McLean, were invited to a team training, went, and invited for a 2nd but snowcrete happened. Since then schedules didn't align for their ID, etc. Feeling like we've dodged a bullet. |
December? Is that even enforceable? MYS needs a serious overhaul. |
| All the GA clubs did that this year to lock in their best kids before ECNL tryouts. This is not an MYS specific thing. Happens every year at every club. ECNL clubs did it to each other a few years ago before all the GA teams. So it is not a GA thing either. Clubs are competing for the same kids, so IDs keep getting pushed up. The leagues decide when you can start IDs and start handing out offers. Then most clubs give you 48 hours to respond so they can lock in other players if you aren’t interested. This is a league problem, not a club problem. These questions and comments happen every year amongst the newer parents. The tryouts typically happen before high school soccer tryouts so the kids are not trying out while playing HS. That is why MD tryouts are later, because HS soccer is in the fall. The system is flawed, IDs should happen AFTER HS soccer, but you need to get the leagues to change that. Good luck with that… |
By December? This is 100% false. Do not believe this person. They are lying to you to cover for a club or have completely no idea what they are talking about. |

My daughter is in GA club, and yes, we’re already locked in for next year. But not even getting an offer and then being forced to make a decision in December is crazy! The kids just finished the fall season and haven’t even started spring or played in a couple of the upcoming tournaments.
What happens if we don’t sign? Does she not get invited to indoor futsal? Does she get benched for the rest of the season? It just feels unfair to force families to make decisions so early. What an art of sucker! |
Of course it’s not enforceable. Play the game like you’re a sheep, but always keep your eyes open for opportunities until you have to start putting down money. |
Hey, regretful dad is back! Almost made it 24 hours without a new post!! |
| No one is forced to make a decision in december get a grip- maybe its a question but certainly not a committment lol |
Not forced but we know the reasons why a coach would make an offer that early and none of them have the player's interests in mind. This is especially true with a coach who offers private training in return for status on the team. |
| those offers were only verbal by a coach to selected couple players. No official offer was sent. Since it was only verbal, you could say yes and not sign the official offer if things change. be smart people. |
I bet the spring season would be great and welcomed back in the future if you burned that bridge. Even more so for non-star players. Are you intentionally trying to be a dumba$$ while telling others to be smart? And notice how there is no denial of the pay to play scheme with the coach or the queen bee situation. |
he was probably just trying to lock them in early because he was burned so badly last year with the 2013s going to FVU |
