Annapolis is pretty hard core for four years. Not for everyone And after their five years of service, there are all sorts of opportunities for a naval captain, which is about where they will likely be at that age point.
Whereas Merchant Marine is really about embracing life at sea, which is great for some but not for everyone. |
At five years out, a USNA grad will be an O3, or Lieutenant. |
Plenty of pretty boys in the Navy. Especially the aviators. |
It certainly doesn't help when some of my fellow women in uniform get pregnant to get out of deployment or hook up with superiors to get ahead. |
| With all due respect, by posting on DCUM you are asking the wrong group of people about the value and merit of serving one’s country. Though we have a large military & federal service population in our area, I think most of the education banter on here is about Ivies, test prep, and what kinds of hacks can get their kids into feeders for top jobs. Most want to reap the benefits of America — not serve their country! Quite sad. Not to hijack your post, but imagine if we had required service to earn voting privileges. Thanks to your DC for their interest in serving our great nation, especially right now. |
It's going to take approximately 20 years of service to get to the rank of Captain. |
There's plenty of people on here that are from military families. We have a volunteer military service and these folks are not serving for free. The taxpayers of this country pay for the military. The volunteers can get a excellent academy education in exchange for their service and they deserve it |
