But what is the alternative? We don’t know yet, so with the uncertainty college still seems like the best option

No, flexibility is key. College, yes. Prepared to take on other training and accreditation, yes. Prepared to be physical for the short term, yes. My kids are looking at all options with college being the first step.

No. AI can automate some low level tasks in a professional setting but IME working with AI on a daily basis, it’s a lot more hype than substance. It’s a far bigger concern for people who don’t have a college education than those that do.

College has been around since medieval times and my family's been going to college since the late 1800s.

Why would I let rapacious tech bros and their crappy LLMs destroy my faith in the value of becoming a wiser, more introspective, learned person?

Agree. People here are so mercenary. Don’t understand joys of life of the mind.

It’s making me counsel my kids to go abroad for school that’s for sure.

Just not to push CS unless that's already a serious interest.

In some ways AI makes a liberal arts education more worthwhile, as long as you don't have to take out too many loans.

AI is a tool, just like any other technology. You can learn how to use it or fall behind.
