APS lottery

But once it comes down to leaving their friends behind or realizing the logistics will be tough, some of them decide to stick with their home school. I had to remind my kid that if she wasn't interested in any of the specialty areas, most of her schedule would be the same as at yorktown, and sports would be a pain.

You sure they don't see the fugly building and decide not to go? I think the waitlist will move less once Grace Hopper center is open. My kid is still friends with their WL/neighbood kid friend group.

I think you’re right. I heard people moved into discovery zone cuz of the nice new building

When do they release the data re how many people applied? I'm specifically interested in the data on HB woodlawn applications for 6th grade per elementary school.

Go look for last years. The acceptance window is open now. It's on the APS website. I doubt the numbers will change significantly from last year to this one.

I heard the number on the waitlist is for all slots, not per school. Can someone confirm? I have only heard of waitlist numbers 20 and below which makes me think it is per school.

Unless it has changed recently, it is per school

We’re 22 at our school and not the last in line, for 6th

That’s true for HB but not AT

Moves a ton for AT. Usually moves very little to none for HB.

Yep. You’ll get in to tech but not HB most likely.

Waitlist for AT has not moved this week. Curious how things will move after the deadline tomorrow.

I knew the #2 kid at my kid's school. #1 got in b/c one kid didn't take the spot. #2 had a sib there and was very sad. (which is also proof that the sibling conspiracy is false).

The sibling conspiracy is very false. As an HB mom, we know many families with one kid at HB and others at other schools who applied but did not get in. We also know families with more than one kid at HB. But even with these, a lot of kids didn't get in the first time. Like they applied in 6th didn't get in but then finally got in in 9th.

It is amusing to me that people need to see this for themselves to confirm it's not a big conspiracy - sounds like another one just learned now that they saw it too.

The conspiracy is not that siblings automatically get in; it is that connected families are able to get more than one kid in.

Look closely at the families that do have more than one child at HBW. Maybe you will understand then.

Does this relate to the theory ATS has a disproportionate # of Republican parents vs the zoned schools?

When my kids got into ATS (not what you asked about), it moved on the night of the acceptance day and Sunday afternoon after which is when my kid got it (about 4 spots "moved" at the same time). If you don't see movement now, check Monday after 9am. They should press the recalc button by then....or count their bribes if you are a conspiracy theorist.

C’mon, count those bribes faster APS!
