Bummer

FCPS really has a target on WSHS. They keep pillaging their staff

The staff applied for the positions.

Exactly. The PP should be asking themselves why everyone wants to leave WSHS, not blaming FCPS for giving them other opportunities.

Why would you say everyone wants to leave WSHS? I can see wanting to leave Madison, but not WS. Maybe the positions are closer to the new administrators’ homes, and you get promoted to principal or above within FCPS by working in different environments.

There is not a target on WSHS staff, the staff their keep applying for jobs to leave WSHS, therefor FCPS isn't going in and removing people unwillingly from WSHS. People are applying for jobs elsewhere.

However, it certainly doesn't mean people are wanting to leave. If they're leaving for better opportunities that's incredibly logical and wise for their careers. If they're leaving for later or even lower jobs elsewhere (outside of a better commute, work/life balance etc) then you'd wonder if WSHS has issues.

WSHS lost people to TJ when Mukai moved over. That’s not surprising and is not a reflection on the school. Being a charter staff member at a new school is an exciting opportunity for many people. It may pay the same, but you get to build the ship from the ground up, which excites a lot of career educators.

I think that the people who are so focused on the process, which has been crap, are missing out that there are reasons that people are excited. It is a new school with new opportunities and a chance to shape the future. That is scary but exciting at the same time. For veteran teachers, this is an opportunity to help frame the curriculum and the shape of their new departments.

You can be excited by the opportunity and dislike the process.

I think a lot of Oakton parents are going to be disappointed when their favorite teachers move to Western. There is a lot of interest.

With the principal leaving, not surprising some teachers would think it is good timing for a change.

+1
Who voted for an aviation/tech magnet?? I thought the area wanted a traditional high school. Ridiculous.

Oh sweetie, learn what words mean before you use them!

Doubt it. Not a Crossfield or Oakton parent, but it's clear that rankings and ratings matter to them. Those teachers aren't going to change that.

Especially when this mass exodus of favorite teachers to Skyview never happens.

It's not about rankings/rating. It's about (1) SES (2) Race (3) Sports, not necessarily in that order. The ringleader is obsessed with her child's sports prospects. Ringleader is pretty disliked amongst other sports parents.

Can we have one thread on Skyview that isn't a RIO dominated thread?

Give it a rest. There are plenty of reasons why people would avoid Skyview right now.

Skyview won't have VHSL sports for 2 years because they don't have the necessary fields. Kids will go back to their original school for sports. Not sure why they have an athletic director?

Reason? Yes. Legitimate reasons? No.

It doesn’t ever seem to be RIO people though just Crossfield parents who want to attend Skyview bringing them up. It is a bit tiring, there is enough other stuff to discuss.

Oakton with small exception is not a sports powerhouse so that’s surprising to hear. Oakton and Chantilly are highly ranked schools, I can understand why people would not want to take a chance at an unknown school. You’re right though, in that ranking and SES are intertwined and not representative of the quality of teachers just a student’s access to extra tutoring, etc. Skyview will be a good school but it will take time to see where it falls in the rankings, if that’s important to people.
