OP doesn't care about that. They just want to bash Ward the elected officials.

It matters. Keep them away from schools along with the vape stores.

So now you’re surprised it shows up next to schools ? They will soon be as ubiquitous as liquor stores in some parts of the city.

I didn’t vote for him.

Marijuana products today are far stronger, harmful and addictive than those back in the day. How were these allowed to open up so close to schools and what can be done to reverse this?

They are both outside the legal boundaries for distance from schools. Maybe ask why the executive branch allowed the permits to be issued, since that is really the responsible party. Neither an ANC nor a Councilmember issue permits.

The DC boundaries are irresponsibly small. Smaller than San Francisco’s. Regardless, the federal boundary calls for at least 1000 feet of separation and most of DCs violate federal Drug Free School Zone law.

So what can be done? A lawsuit?

It isn't "next to schools" please stop lying. Near? Sure. But outside of the number of require feet. Now, if you want the council to extend the boundary, that is a different issue, but the existing stores would likely be grandfathered in anyhow.

And...its not like there isn't a lot of pot at the schools with or without the dispensaries.

Stellar logic.

Why? These are legal products.

Not under federal law.

This isn't hard and doesn't need a lawsuit. If residents feel the boundaries are too close to schools, then ask the legislators to extend the boundaries. But don't be surprised if existing stores are grandfathered in to their locations.

You get...stores selling a product? What exactly is the problem?

The legal age to buy cannabis in DC is 21, there's not a single kid in any DC school that can patronize those establishments so it doesn't matter whether they're 50 feet or 50,000 feet away from a school.

If stores are illegally selling to underage kids the problem is the illegal sales, not the proximity to a school. "Well, I know this place that will sell me underage cannabis/alcohol/cigarettes but it's a whole 2 blocks away from school, so I guess I won't bother." Said no kid ever.

His energy has been behind suggesting current Ward 3 neighbors are responsible for making amends for the alleged racism of long dead Ward 3 neighbors and using it as a cudgel to accept criminals in our buildings, locked up store shelves and public marijuana use.

I strongly disagree and I don't like the guy. He has been a go-along-to-get-along guy who votes the way Mendo tells him. He talked equity during the primaries and his only example was the Lisner, which he keeps talking about as if it is anything worth talking about.

They're breaking the law. You don't get to choose which laws are enforced. This contempt for the law *by our own government* is how we end up with lawless ICE agents running around beating people up for no reason.

Cannibis is basically legal, and even Trump wants to re-classify it. Ridiculous to relitigate that question at this juncture.

Pot is definitely not legal. You should familiarize yourself with the basics on how federal and DC law treat pot. You sound badly misinformed.
