They aren’t even giving people a chance to adopt. Dogs should be at the shelter at least 30 days before a rescue swoops in and make it more affordable so more can adopt. |
This. |
Who pays 800 for a regular visit? Stop making stuff up. |
The rescue is reselling. |
It should be volunteer and they use fosters. They get donations to cover basics. |
Actually some are getting rich. |
As a taxpayer - I disagree. It's supposed to be animal control, not an adoption operation. |
Care to provide some evidence to support that statement? Like 990 of the org you have in mind? |
As a tax payer I expect the shelters to do their job which is finding a home, not be in the reselling business. |
Nobody is making that argument. Shelters even have fee-free adoption days multiple times a year. But nobody wants "just any dog", they want the dog they want, at the price they want, right when they want, like toddlers. It's ridiculous. |
So that what? So that greedy, cheap, impatient people can get a "better" dog for less and faster? Nobody looking to adopt an animal that way has the animal's best interest at heart. I'm sorry you don't understand that. |
And they'll be funded how, exactly? Why should they be free? Do you have any idea the work that goes into transporting dogs, making listings on various sites, managing files, answering emails from prospective owners, feeding and caring for the animals in the interim, etc? No, you obviously don't, or you wouldn't say ridiculous things like "all that labor should be free just because I say so". Nobody is making a profit off discarded dogs. Nobody is going to solve the overpopulation problems by attacking the shelters and rescues. If you want better lives for the animals, go after the breeders creating all these unwanted dogs. |
If working with rescues frees up space so taxpayer run shelters can stop killing innocent dogs that’s fine with me. I’m not sure where people think all of these rescues get their funding. Most are donation based and all rescues cover medical costs such as spaying and neutering so that municipal shelters don’t incur those costs. They also help cover costs for foster homes. |
I edited your post to remove the bad faith arguments that are banned in this forum for a reason, but it's telling that you tried that... Yes, dear. Purebred cocker spaniels in particular are a luxury item, and they always have been. All purebred dogs that aren't working breeds are prestige items; that's how we got them! I don't know what sort of place you live in where everyone should just be able to grab a purebred dog for free, but I don't want to go there. Anyone can adopt a dog from the shelter, and many of them even have fee-free days and community medical clinics and food banks that help make dog ownership possible for more people than can probably responsibly own a dog. But they're not toys. They're living beings that come with big bills, and not everyone can afford that. It's not "classist", it's just common sense. I can't afford a pony. They're expensive and I don't have that kind of money. I don't expect the shelter to pass out free ponies, and the exact same logic applies to dogs (and cats, but they're a bit more affordable). We get it, Veruca, you want a purebred toy breed and you want it NOW!!! Nobody is required to provide that for you, and dogs aren't free. Please educate yourself. |
+1 Everyone making this ridiculous argument needs to put int 40+ hours volunteering at a shelter or rescue so they can get some much-needed perspective. Nobody who has put in the sweat equity is saying this stupid shit. |
