Jeez.

If members of Congress did not know this was happening until it was underway, do you actually think the guy in the State Department who assigns threat levels can predict what will be happening there in two weeks??? 🙄

Chill out bro

The only time we felt uneasy was when we doom-scrolled. So we didn’t; we took normal precautions. I would return. But that’s just us .

?

We are talking about vacationing in Colombia post-invading Venezuela the other night.

ICYMI: the western part of Venezuela is controlled by armed Colombian guerrillas. It’s not far fetched that something could heat up in Venezuela impacting Colombia.

DP, and not to mention, Trump specifically mentioned threats to Columbia in his babbling press conference.

We have a trip planned at the end of Feb so I will be following with interest. I appreciate OP for starting the thread and wish you all the best on your trip.

Not for me right now. I've been traveling there since the late 90s and lived in Bogota for 4 years so am generally pro Colombia travel but at the very least I know there is no way I wouldn't doomscroll and I really, really try to avoid that on vacation if I have any intention of relaxing. I am also fluent in Spanish which sounds good but am pretty sure, based on history, this would just mean I'd be engaged in endless conversation about the situation. I'm already doing that remotely with friends, no desire to engage with every innkeeper or tour guide.

We avoided the greater Venezuela area border for this reason. Especially after the invasion.

We would return to certain parts. Not that area. Parts like Cartagena, tourist areas, we’d consider with contingency plans. But it’s reasonable to reconsider.

If we had existing plans for travel we would not cancel.

Go now before Trump F’s up the whole region

Avoid the border and don’t be dumb. I’d still go unless we are actively overthrowing Petro. Great country and awesome people.

I'm not the PP, but I've lived overseas on and off for years and have known enough state department people to know that you can not treat their travel advisories as if they're 100% accurate and that they can lag current events considerably.

In some countries, they're outdated and reference Level 3 threats related to events that happened in 2013 that most think are unlikely to reoccur. I have seen ones for other countries where I felt risks were understated due to not wanting to offend a particular country. YMMV.

Don't listen to these weenies who suffer from a severe form of anxiety. The "news" is their drug and they are clearly addicted.

The biggest threat in Colombia is getting your cell phone stolen and being drugged by some hood rat.

Op, we just returned on Monday from Colombia and visited all three of the places on your itinerary. We had no issues at all, even after the invasion. I wouldn't worry about kidnapping etc. The Colombian people will give you no problem. They are kind and depend on tourism. It's our own psycho president who is the problem, and that is the great unknown.
