We submitted a first-choice letter, had a perfect FLI score, and did not get in. Since we applied during Covid, there was no playdate. We were not at a connected preschool, so never got any feedback.

OP have you heard back from HM or Riverdale? We are unconnected so wanted to know what’s going on especially since they are not ISAAGNY.

Riverdale is still ISAAGNY.

For Horace Mann, we did not submit any letter at all. DD was admitted about a week or so before the ISAAGNY schools notified. This was a few years ago though so not sure if they've changed on timing or letters.

Oh, and for Riverdale, we also did not submit a letter and DD was admitted, but it was the same day as the other schools. We appreciated that Horace Mann and Riverdale weren't playing the game like the other schools and just admitted the kids they wanted rather than trying to manage the yield. If I recall, they didn't really even provide feedback to the preschool. Not sure if that's still happening currently, though.

Not really. The preschool participated in the game, speaking to the schools, getting feedback, and working with us for the schools that wanted us to say whether we would accept before they made a decision, etc. But it wasn't a "feeder" preschool as typically thought of.

We did. We sent a first choice letter to Brearley and softer letters (love you letters?) to Spence and Chapin, all at the direction of the preschool.

Any more thoughts on this comparison (HM and Riverdale)? Our child now has this decision.

Child leans pretty academic, interests are strongest in STEM though likes all subjects. Wants to learn and be challenged.

You do not need perfect score. My kid got in with less than perfect score years ago and is thriving. I really don’t know how important FLI score is.
