Sounds like you raised a shitty kid, frankly. You're going to say "you have no idea what your kids are doing" but nope, my kids are doing the right thing. We have boundaries in our household and kids get in trouble for doing things they are not supposed to do. Sorry your kids suck. |
I knew kids like yours in HS. They were the most fun at the parties... |
That sounds wonderful. Unfortunately, it's not how it works at our school. There are a handful of kids VERY behind and intervention is focused on them. The others have time to do work (my kid has not brought home work all year yet it comes home graded so I know he does it) or whatever keeps them quiet. It's usually laptops. |
| So everyone who is anti-tech, do you not care about test scores that your child takes on computers? |
Raising the most fun kid at a party is not really what most of us are aiming for, LOL! |
|
My college aged kid brought home reams of worksheets and people complained. I don't think this is much different, it's just a different medium.
Personally, I try not to be a Luddite, but I know the low-tech ship has sailed. My college kid purchased textbooks...but all online. This is a car and buggy whip situation; it's never going back. |
DP. I think PP meant that if you think you know everything your kids are doing, you are probably kidding yourself. |
Yes, well, I don't want to be the "fun mom" getting kids drunk in my basement like her, so my kids know when to call me when they want a ride home no questions asked. |
They are not a good indicator of your child’s intelligence in elementary school. Paper and pencil test is what I give a lot more weight to. |
LOL |
+1 If I received that letter I would laugh too. And I'm not putting the onus on my employee to provide accommodations, they have enough to do already. I would suggest you go to Costco and buy one of those reading and writing worksheet tomes. They can do that instead. |
In all seriousness I wonder how much better the kids whose parents pay money for tutoring where pen/paper and real books do over their non tutored peers and how much that is due to the medium itself. It's hard to say when you have more involved parents. |
I’m the PP who moved from out of state from a low tech public charter school environment. Before you apply, the staff make it abundantly clear that the kids most likely will test lower on the state exams since (barring 6th grade) it is the only time they use computers at school. Everyone who applies and attends is aware of that and for the most part, we all recognize that these computer test scores do reflect what our kids actually know. We’re willing to accept that for a learning environment without a ton of computer tech. In our situation, the school only goes through 6th grade. In 6th grade, computer skills are introduced to help with the transition to regular public school. Funny enough, a lot of the parents work for Microsoft or meta and other tech companies. |
Wow. That is so harsh and not accurate. |
Disagree on drafts - doing them on the computer is fine, preferable for the kid and teacher, and much more efficient. Why can't research be done on the internet? Do you still go to the library to check out books for your own research? |
