Taylor "No Snow Delay" Apology Email

No, it was an apology for preventing child care from opening.

Today’s delay also meant that we canceled morning childcare for some families, where before school care is provided at some of our schools by community partners. This announcement was made in error and should have been a delay. Again, I deeply apologize for the added stress that this caused to an already chaotic morning. We are truly sorry for the confusion.

+1 I read it as the next time there’s a two hour delay, beforecare will open with a two hour delay if at all possible.

I think this is true, but even this is a step backwards-- as recently as the beginning of last winter they would sometimes let beforecare providers open on time even when there was a delayed opening if the beforecare providers thought local conditions were safe (yesterday would have been the perfect time for this) and on certain snow days But I bet after all the pressure he got, he's not rethinking his whole approach, just "what's the least I can concede and get away with it?"

I wish they would go back to the old way. It stinks.

No matter what they did, they were going to catch grief. Because no one whines and complains like MCPS parents.

I don't remember anyone whining when they let childcare open.

Before care is about 1000$/academic year for 1 hour of care before school, depending on the provider. Cancel it for no good reason and people won’t pay for it anymore.

There are fewer dependencies for opening childcare than schools, particularly no buses or bus routes to worry about. Yes if there is a huge snow storm and everything is closed fine. But if the County Government offices are open on time then childcare should be open. Notice I didn't say MCPS admin offices since they love to give themselves extra days off.

I think he inconvenienced enough teachers who rely on the before care for their own kids in order to get to their own jobs. I don’t think MCPS makes decisions based on inconveniencing random parents, but they do care if teachers don’t show up. I don’t think it was an oversight with respect to the childcare error. They made a conscious decision. They bolded it! It was just a bad/wrong decision that they are realizing should not be made the same way if we are in similar circumstances again.

Some of you will never be happy. Dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t.

Still waiting to find out who the people who would have complained if he hadn't cancelled childcare for rain are.

What are you talking about? A non apology is a non apology and deserves all the scorn it gets.

DP. Your labeling of his apology as a non-apology is ridiculous.

$1,000 a year? I wish!

Even for morning-only, it is $5,000.

Mom: Timmy, why is there paint on the dog?

Timmy: Mistakes were made.

Mom: Say you’re sorry.

Timmy: I’m sorry you feel this happened because of me.

Mom: <angry look>

Timmy: Changes will be implemented.

He shouldn't have bothered apologizing. You people are relentless. Nothing will make you happy, ever. It's very sad.

I don't rely on MCPS to make me happy. That would be a horrible way to live. I would love for them to treat parents and teachers with a basic level of courtesy and honesty. Apparently, that is too much to ask.
