Would you go on the trip?

Oh, I was thinking Afghanistan.

I felt a little jealous looking at everyone’s pictures (there will be so many pictures) but I didn’t regret it. I’m a little less self-righteous now, so I’d probably go to Thailand if the opportunity came up. Can’t be on a high horse as an American, sadly.

Supporting human rights is not self righteous. It’s the right thing to do. Good for you.

I agree with your reasoning , but would contact the country’s consulate or tourism department so the know that they are losing income due to their poor human rights record.

Well, I have put off going to Turkey because they still deny the Armenian genocide.

Donate to a targeted charity if you feel guilty but want to go.

I don't know - I travel to go see places - not to make friends with the people there? I also shop at Target and don't really care about how they run their business model since all big co are guilty of something. That's just me I wouldn't go if you don't feel comfortable but I happen to think people who are too judgy are hypocrites because I assure you, every country to some degree sucks.

I mean Trump heads our country. What do you think about living here??!!

+1

Do you gor to WalMart? Chik-fil-A? Do you ship at Amazon? Are you actively trying to move because of our President's words and policies?

I like a PP's idea of going with your friends and then giving money to a women's charity to "balance it out." Don't forget to give to an environmental charity to "balance out" the damage from your international flight as well.

Spend your money on a trip you want to take.

Why does your friend want to make everyone go overseas? This reminds me of the posting on going out on "girls' nights out" just for the social media posts.
