Matching Christmas pajamas

I opened Christmas PJs every year on Christmas Eve when I was a kid in the 1980s. It's not new and pre-dates social media by decades. We're just continuing the tradition from my childhood.

My mom also did this in the 1990s...now she only does it so she can post the family photo on facebook. I do think social media has warped the tradition for us, unfortunately.

We've never posted a picture in pjs on social media. We did occasionally post a picture with Santa when the kids were little, but certainly weren't taking kids to see Santa because of social media. That tradition also existed well before social media.

It's really over the top to point to social media as the root of all evil. It's just not that important.

My husband won’t wear pajamas never mind matching ones. Tshirts and shorts only. Even if we have similar green shirts on he’ll go change.

I’ve never tried it.

Same in this family. I know it's a bit silly and taggy but as long as the kids like it. I think we will hold on to this family tradition which I must admit I find quite cosy.

We do, because we buy matching PJs with cousins who live all over the country and they think it's fun to FaceTime and show each other. The oldest cousin is 29 and the youngest is 5. It's super cute!

Same with my kids. To actually sleep in, DD (17) wears t-shirts and shorts and DS (14) wears nothing. So pjs in our house are for lounging, but very much expected under the tree. It's kind of funny because after finding out he had started sleeping nude a couple of years ago, I didn't get him pajamas that Christmas - no need, right? - and you would have thought I sold the dog. "But Mom, I still like them to lay round the house in!"

Some things are just tradition.

We got matching plaid pajama pants from Target last year. We had always matched the kids but decided to get the adults some right after Christmas when they were on sale.

I did this for the kids since they were little. A few years ago I got pajamas for the entire family and it was surprisingly fun to include all the adults too.

Heh. Sure matching PJs are silly, but I don’t post pictures of myself (or any adult) wearing PJs on social media. They’re just for fun.

My kids - 18, 19, 21 - love them. Usually we do plaid flannel bottoms, which some of them will wear around dorm/home, and funny shirt - Hannah Anderson grinch pj tops this year.

We were not going to do the matching pjs this year, but all 3 objected.

We do with 14 and 16 year old boys. It’s not a highlight for them but it’s not an issue either. I think it’s cute and funny. I don’t post those pics on social media.

My teens love to hate it. They talk about how cheesy it is but when I said I was going to skip it they complained. Last year we got holiday sweatshirts from old navy and we have worn the same set 2 years in a row when everyone’s still fit.

This was me when I was that age. I would get them under the tree each year and think, “Oh goodie, another set of pjs”. And they would spend the rest of the year in my drawer. I never had the heart to tell my mom I had been sleeping naked since I was 12. lol

My teen DD and I get matching pants each year...not specifically PJs or even holiday themed, just fleece or flannel bottoms we like. This year they are plaid flannel pants from DDs college (school colors with an applique of the mascot on one hip).

This year I did everyone's football teams, since we root for different teams.
