Nobody in DC was wearing UGGs in the 80s |
Makes sense. Probably an east coast/west coast thing. I lived in California and we wore them in high school. Class of 87. |
|
Bean gumshoes for wet or slushy weather. Taller Bean boots for actual snow or such.
For ice rather than for snow, only metal crampons work well for traction, but college students don't bother with them. |
No one on the east coast was wearing UGGs in the 80s. Graduated from NJ high school in ‘84 and Massachusetts college in ‘88. Everyone wore LLBean. |
Uggs, but the snow boot kind not the fashion kind. No extra spikes, I offered, kid said no. |
| Sorel |
| My kid has LL Bean waterproof hiking boots that he wears for winter weather in NE. Also, a school known to be snowy will have good systems in place for clearing snow on sidewalks. My kid’s campus gets a decent amount of snow but he says sidewalks are always in good shape (though he has an 8am class across campus this semester and was just saying today he might find out how early the snow clearing happens). |
| New England is not a state. Maine, northern New Hampshire and Vermont you can count on snow. Only certain parts of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island get snow that stays. Boston not so much but every five years or so there’s a real blizzard. |

Mine is in the snowy Midwest and didn't want snow boots. She wears the fur lined Doc Martens with good socks.
|
| I’m 40 and went to college in a lake effect snow area. We’d get feet of snow at a time. So much snow. No one wore snow boots at college. Some girls have Uggs, but those aren’t any more snow appropriate than sneakers. College kids don’t care. |
. I noticed this too! LOL |
|
UGGs, Timberlands, and Rainboots.

| None. Both my kids are at snowy schools and neither one ever wore their boots — it was a big waste of money. The paths are plowed. My DD usually wore her flat-bottomed Uggs. |
| Same boots he wears on the farm in the summer. |

Danner (Has a nice model that zips for ease. Arctic side zip)
Sorel Blundstones (Cool factor but not as warm. Aussie boots) If you go with LL Bean duck boots, order a size down. Those things are clodhoppers. |
