Someone asked on reddit and Dean J said the Common App lets them hide answers to questions and schools of family members is hidden. |
DP. She said in regard to this specific letter that a division working on behalf of admissions—or something like that—sends the letters out. Which sounds a little sus. They can totally find the parents college if they want to. Our letter hasn’t come yet, though. |
No they don't see this. |
correct that's what the letter said. so if they are telling the truth, they will not know at all when evaluating apps. |
they said no, they won't see it. how would they know then? there are no supplemental essays to mention it in now. |
Please post if you get it. It seems a little uneven. We didn't get one with older kid but others said they did. |
Right. B/c if they could see the parent colleges, they would know if the applicant was a legacy |
How many years ago did older one apply? |
|
Notre Dame sends a letter to the parents of legacy applicants that basically says "it'll help, yes, but it doesn't mean your kid is a shoo-in"
I think it's smart of UVA to temper expectations |
DP. The law doesn’t say they can’t see where the parents went to college, only that they can’t use that as a criteria. |
UVA has set it up so parent’s education is blocked from the common app. |
| Yes, we got the alumni letter over a week ago. It was not encouraging in tone at all. |
But the data’s being fed to someone in order for them to be able to send the letters. |
| Did these letters come in the mail? Or via email? We have not received one. But did a few years ago when older DD was not accepted. |
