Female Heads of School

Joan Holden is a fabulous, long-time head of St. Stephen's and St. Agnes Schools. Quite and inspiration.
Signed,
A 1980s graduate she greatly impressed

More kudos for Mrs. Holden. Don't know a parent who doesn't like her. My DS has more male teachers than female. MS math and science classes also single sex. Last year, the Washington Post recognized her as School Head of the Year. And on top of all that, she has raised 4 outstanding children of her own.

I think St. John's Episcopal Preschool is headed by a woman.

As a teacher who has worked at a few independent schools, the female school heads were not positive leaders. They were judgmental, harsh, competitive, cliquey, microanaging, out of touch with the schools/individual classrooms, and dishonest. While that may seem harsh, it is very much true, imo. On the other hand, the male heads have been wonderful. I am not saying this is always the case, but in my career, this is what I have repeatedly experienced.

I've had horrible bosses of both genders, but the absolute best head of school that I worked for is a woman-- she was wonderful. I was terribly sad when she retired.

Beauvoir and NCS also have women as heads of school.

"Sad Little Twirp" here.

I am not stirring up trouble by basing my opinion on MY EXPERIENCE.

What's the point of this name-calling?

15:39 - a bit curious here - you aren't willing to name the schools - but apparently have worked at several. And every time you were working with a female head, there was dishonesty, etc. And every time with a male head, all was great. And you have worked at, let's say for purposes of giving a reasonable comparison, at least 6-8 schools - -i.e., 3-4 of each gender for your survey. Wow, lots of turnover there. Are you sure that the problem isn't with you?
