My kids are in public school and we get the median scores and percentiles for our school district, as well as for the test nationally. |

Public districts are enormous and that sample size makes them much for inclined to share district level data. No independent school will share that.

Yes, and no public school shares samples for a single public school, only for a much larger district. My kid's private school shares an aggregate that includes other privates in the region. |
| Most independent schools don't do the MAP or ask for them in admissions |
Some do. GDS for example. |
Our independent school shares: 1) the median by grade at our school; 2) the median by grade for independent schools; and 3) the median by grade nationwide . |
| Our private just sent out their raw mean scores and the mean of all independent schools and 250 is higher than both numbers for grade 8 |
Same. I think 250 would be roughly 95th percentile. |
This is OP. Thank you for the data points. We submitted applications, but some schools, notably Sidwell, do not even ask for test scores, which was surprising to us. |
| Don't school applications allow for test scores even if not required? We included it as supplementary material for middle grades along with academic info outside of school. If you have a kid scoring 95%ile or higher, that could help with admissions and placement. I don't know about 9th grade. |
If you email Sidwell admissions, the automatic response often includes a link to submit test scores and other materials. The schools reserve the right not to consider things that they didn’t ask for. But, I believe that they do consider high scores and supplemental materials that stand out (e.g., 98 and 99th percentile MAP scores, unique awards, or precocious academic work). |
