That's a bit of an exaggeration. Some of the core Freshman classes are online or in really large classes, but lots of other classes are smaller.

Much of the student body lives "off campus" in houses or apartments filled with only students. If you had actually ever been to UF, then you would understand that this off campus housing is still in the middle of everything and feels very much a part of the campus. Even OOS COA is very affordable.

OP, there's a lot of knee-jerk insulting anything Florida on this board. DCUM largely hates anything not leftist, so take the faux outrage with a grain of salt. UF is great. So is Tulane, but they're very different types of schools.

I’m a native Floridian whose siblings went to UF in the 90s and our family loved the school, but I can’t wrap my head around their normalization of leaning into online classes, particularly for freshman. Imo it’s indefensible. The super large core classes were mediocre enough. My brother went a whole semester not attending a class freshman year because he thought he’d dropped it only to find out at exam time he actually hadn’t. He crammed for the final and got a B- in the class despite not doing any work or attending any lectures.

My DC applied broadly a couple of years ago because they wouldn’t commit to an ED, but their preference was a mid-sized school. They were wait listed across the board so chose a strong (on paper) oos flagship. Long story short, DC ended up transferring and is much happier at their mid-sized private than they were at their more highly ranked public.

This is obviously just one anecdote, but if your kid thinks a Tulane is a better fit, I can’t imagine UF being a good alternative and vice versa.

People like a range of school types. My own kid is applying to large flagships, Jesuit’s and urban privates.
