Doctor more than 40 minutes late

Anonymous
Sometimes it really is the system. Children's National schedules ENT follow ups for ten minutes. Let me tell you, that's barely enough time to make sure ear tubes are in place in a toddler. It's not enough time to discuss imaging reports and decide whether or not to have surgery. So of course by the afternoon they're running way behind!

It can help to get the first appointment of the day so they simply don't have time to be that far behind.

Sorry, the bolded statement is complete BS. There aren’t enough doctors and the majority of those we do have treat their patients like cattle. i.e. they don’t give a single F about you or your time.

It’s. Not. Their. Choice.

Why do you say that it's not their choice?

Doctors will say they need to schedule so many patients because they need to make money. Like that's some foreign thing for everyone else. But I've never had a a 30 minute appointment with a lawyer or accountant that entails waiting for hours. And presumably, lawyers and accountants also need to make a living. I'm not sure why doctors - alone among all professions - can't create something reasonable that doesn't entail ruining everyone else's obligations and responsibilities.

Do your lawyers and accountants run it through insurance at an “agreed” upon price? This is a dumb comparison. It is the insurance companies!!

That's just a poorly run office. I had one doctor do that to me. The first time, I was willing to accept that there was an emergency. The second, I was a little more skeptical. By the third, I realized it was a pattern. So, after two hours, I left and sent them an invoice for my time (I bill at $700 an hour).

They paid it.

This absolutely did not happen, but great for making s*** up on the internet!

+1 haha

Insurance companies mandate as many patients as possible per day. I thought this was common knowledge by now.

No. Worst advice. They can release you as a patient if you do this.

I think you don’t understand that we are releasing them as a doctor. It works both ways.

If they are that busy, do they really need you?

They’re not making much more money off a patient they stay with for 30+ minutes.

Because doctors are dealing with life and death issues? Unclear how you don’t see that’s different from accountants.

Many of them do care and that’s why they go concierge—to spend more time on each patient. But of course it’s frustrating if you can’t/won’t pay the concierge fees.

I would send a bill to the doc’s office. Time is money for everyone.

My gynecologist in Oakton pulled this numerous times. The time she let me wait for two hours I voted with my feet and found a MUCH better one who honors her appointments and my time.

This is not the punishment you think it is for the doctor. The doctor is busy. The patient depending on what he/she needs will need to find another doctor and another appointment slot. OBGYNS were the worst for this in my opinion...women don't complain much and how are you going to compete with some pregnant woman's urgent whatever.

No they are not that busy.

40 minutes is not acceptable.

If the nurse came in and said there was an emergency sure otherwise no.

Aww, you’re precious. Wrong, but precious.

Liar. Bet you enjoyed that power fantasy, though.

They paid it.
