Manhattan Institute New Rankings

Great. Hope it’s a useful list for some as they are selecting their school. Can’t say I have found any ranking particularly useful and this one seems less useful to my family than most.

Top 3:
1 University of Florida
2 University of Texas at Austin
3 University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill

The Manhattan Institute’s City Journal looked at 100 colleges, assessing them on qualities that many students and families are concerned about, including free speech, the school’s approach to politics on campus, and students’ professional success after graduation. Schools that have demonstrated ideological pluralism among the faculty received higher marks. Same for a vibrant and inclusive campus social life. Student tolerance for controversial speakers was another plus.

The Manhattan Institute is [b]a hard right-wing think tank and not a credible arbiter of education quality. The arrogance in these rankings is palpable.

false. Google it. The Manhattan Institute is not hard right. It is moderate to conservative and focuses on economic choice and personal responsibility. Google it. When I worked there, the President wasn’t even a conservative (which is very different from MAGA and hard-right). The Institute has done some excellent work such as Betsy McCoy’s discovery that Hilary Clinton’s health care initiative would NOT allow one to select their own doctor, which resulted in the end of her healthcare plan and her meddling as First Lady in presidential affairs.

+1

Thanks for fact-checking this one, against the OP’s ridiculous exaggeration.

No, here is your fact check.

It was founded by Antony Fisher and William Casey. It is part of the State Policy Network, a coalition of right-wing think tanks.

It has strong ties to the Koch brothers to the tune of $3 million in funds from the Koch network.

It took funds from the tobacco industry and worked hard to combat perceptions that smoking is dangerous, including “research” calling medical findings “junk science.”

Currently it fights action on climate change.

It was a leading antagonist promoting the phantom menace of Critical Race Theory and gender ideology, including sponsoring “work” by Christopher Rufo. It similarly an attack dog on DEI.

Ita current chairman is Paul Singer, a vulture capitalist.

Nothing about it is moderate. It has a veneer of academic civility but it is every bit as rabidly right wing and anti-American as the current Trump regime.

Great information. However, every rating & ranking seem to have a slant or agenda. The same folks who criticize this list, probably also criticize US News rankings, WSJ/THE rankings, etc.

DP. Precisely. The PP is probably rabidly left-wing so I don't take any of their claims seriously. Plus, none are sourced so it's clearly just their opinion.
