What's a phrase you're saying on repeat to your third grader?

Every morning as I drop him off at school: “Be Kind. Make good choices.”

[insert whatever food] isn’t a finger food. Use your fork/spoon please.

Recent “not a finger food” foods were pasta with red sauce and… soup. Not kidding.

Make sure you flushed

Go look for your shoes again. Use your EYES this time.

Did you wash yourself with soap in the shower or just water?

Brush your teeth, brush your hair, wash your face, go to the bathroom (morning and night routine -- why can they never remember to do more than one or two things)

Dyslexic and ADHD kids can't hold more than 2 tasks in their short term memory at a time (generally). Can you just put the list in the bathroom.

Bathroom
Brush Hair
Brush Teeth
Wash Face and Hands

Child is neurotypical in this case though this may be a good idea until kid can follow through

"Take a shower."

I had to say this like 40 different times tonight before she actually got in the shower. I know they say that if you are repeating yourself that much, your approach isn't working. And normally if I had to say it 2-3 times and she still didn't do it, I would go intervene. But I didn't want to. I'm tired. I want to say "go take a shower" and then she actually does it, without endless whining and negotiating.

She's now in the shower happily humming to herself because she actually doesn't mind showering. She just hates being told to take a shower. It's exhausting.

If anyone knows how to get your kid to take a shower without so much pushback, please let me know. This kid is harder to discipline than her siblings because she's more stubborn. If we try to take away screen time or other privileges, she just shrugs and says "ok." The more you push the harder she digs in her heels.
