AAP kids know that there's a number between 6 and 8 |
Racial equity counsels calculus does not belong in any Virginia high school, and particularly not in the NOVA area:
|
DP. These people can F off. |

VPMI is dead, even though there is a poster who wants to scream about them where ever possible.
The push to get more kids into Algebra 1 earlier then before is massive, see the 6th grade Algebra 1 pilot. Or dropping the IAAT and placing any kid who passed the SOL advanced into Algebra 1H in 7th grade, even when the student selected 7H. Parents were having to opt out kids who had already opted out of A1H in 7th grade. |
If we are able to get Abigail Spanberger into the governorship of Virginia, she will finally be able to implement equity in mathematics education by signing the VMPI and making it the rule for every VA high school. |
Not in most states. In blue states all publics offer it. The red states are the problem. |
I have friends in Red States who take Calculus in HS. Some of it depends on the size of the student body and the make up of the student body. But Calculus is taught across the country, regardless of red or blue. Calculus will continue to be taught in Virginia, regardless of who is elected Governor. |
Why do you tell blatant and easily disproven lies? Just look at NYC and Seattle PS (as blue as they come) where democrats intentionally dismantled their equivalent of the AAP program. The party opposed to HS calculus is the same party citing “equity” for dismantling AAP wherever possible (ie- the democratic party). |

Read this article for starters https://www.city-journal.org/article/education-reform-students-reading-math-republican-states |
That is what I thought and now we have confirmation. High school calculus is generally more common in Red States compared to Blue States, as Red States have implemented reforms that have improved educational outcomes, including access to advanced math courses like calculus. In contrast, Blue States have seen declines in math scores and may have less emphasis on advanced math courses due to emphasis on educational equity of outcome. |
So if you don’t take AP Calc or AP English or a foreign language, just don’t go to college? Sounds like your college didn’t educate you right. |
This article is so full of misinformation I don’t even know where to start. What is this junk? |
True. California and other west coast states have (not surprisingly) lead the way on reducing advanced math in public school. This article from The Atlantic provides some background: California limited Algebra to 9th grade and not before. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/10/california-math-framework-algebra/675509/ |
F for comprehension. There is no mention of calculus not belonging in those schools just that not ALL kids need to take calculus and that every child should have access to the level of maths that they need. That’s fine, not everyone needs or wants calculus. |
City Journal is a right-wing propaganda rag. We've already had threads on how Mississippi "improved" 4th grade reading scores by reclassifying 4th graders as 3rd graders. |
