Teacher won't stay for late bus

So you want your teacher to work for free? Find a tutor.

If teachers don’t get paid after 3:30, why the heck would they stay? You can always volunteer your time and be there with the kids after 3:30 and wait for the late bus with them.

Is this sarcasm?

It seems to me that OP watched too many American movies and thinks that teachers’ lives revolve around the students.

I think op just doesn’t understand schools. If your kid needs help, you need to tutor them. My neighbor’s son still wasn’t reading in first grade and she couldn’t understand the issue. The rest of us moms all told her that we had to teach our kids how to read and that the teacher isn’t going to be able to have time to do it. My neighbor was surprised at this, but the rest of us thought this was universally known. My neighbor was from another country.

I wish the schools would make it more obvious that you have to teach your kids how to read and things like their multiplication tables. UMC parents get this, but poor parents don’t and they wonder why their kids are falling behind.

It's wild that you would expect the school to force the teacher to stay beyond contract hours to help your child. Ask if there is a time during the day that the teacher is available. If not, your option is to help your kid yourself, get a private tutor, or ask for an evaluation for a 504/IEP if you think the academic issue is the result of a disability.

OP, I think we're missing some details here. I think most assume your child is in MS or HS, but we can't be sure.

MS does offer after school activities, and ours has a "tutoring club," which may or may not include your child's teacher. They can offer after school help, but it is likely in a group setting vs. 1:1.

Our teachers were clear about which days (if any) they stay following school. In my experience, it is at least 1 day a week, but again, that is not guaranteed. Your child should also have access to that teacher during the school day - but I know that sometimes involves the child reaching out, getting permission to come, etc etc. So it takes some initiative.

Finally, some teachers (I think the rule in FCPS is it cannot be your child's teacher) offer after school tutoring for a fee if you are looking for something like that. But again, this takes initiative on your part.
