Damascus, QO swap proposed regions

This regional plan is arbitrary and not ethical.

The original proposal was substantially better for QO. There’s no reason for the QO community, for whom Poolesville has been a reasonable commute, to support these changes.

I'm confused why you think that. I don't see an issue with these revised regions.

The boundary study, which affects QO’s FARMs percentage, has not been decided. What FARMs percentage is MCPS using?

And the lack of contiguity post-swap is concerning. The other five regions have a contiguous appearance that makes sense.

This latest action is just another piece of evidence about how haphazard this proposal is. I don’t see how we can be okay with casually destroying some great, well-established programs like Einstein and Blair, trusting that a clearly sloppy administration will enact so many new programs all at once.

You must not have skin in the game if you don’t see an issue with these revised regions.

Since the boundaries are still undecided, we can't know yet whether they would be contiguous.

I don't because my kids are graduating in the next 2 yrs although I live in region 6. I seriously dont know the issue though.

It'll get interesting. I can see Wootton cluster get carved up and distributed to both QO and Crown, which means they won't have access to Poolesville anymore like they do now.

Poolesville has multiple established magnets. Uncertain about the schools in the other region.

Agreed. The ESs under Wootton which will be carved out and sent to Crown will be most negatively impacted in terms of real estate value.

That’s why they shouldn’t touch Wootton much. There is no reason to hurt some families so disproportionately, especially the part carving out is really the relatively poor ones in Wootton district.

Exactly. I'm another QO parent and this does not look good at all for us. I prefer the old model and my kid is a 2031 kid. Crossing my fingers that something happens and this sh**sh** gets postponed.

Write to BOE, write to your council member just the other thread did. The arbitrary and last-minute change is definitely a big red flag signing how rush and arbitrary they are, and this model is not going to bring benefit but just trouble to QO.

If you're happy at QO you can just stay there and not deal with the regional programs.

Problem is that QO loses the chance to get access to Poolsville which they have previously had. They will be bussing in students from other high FARMS schools and some of the best existing resources will be extracted to support the special programs. I can’t think of any benefits for QO under this new regional model scenario
