Do your tweens/teens want to hang out with you 1:1 outside of home?

Both my teen dd and my teen ds will willingly do thing with me and dh 1:1. They are plenty independent, so I’m not worried about the separation bit. I’m happy to just sit and drive, don’t need to talk unless they want to. Try to be natural. Listen to their music, watch what they want to watch.

Seconding the idea of getting into a TV show together. My teen DDs and I love chilling together and watching The Office, it’s mindless entertainment and is good decompression time together. They also love grocery shopping, but that’s because we go to Wegmans or Trader Joe’s and I let them get their own little basket and grab what they want for lunch and grab and go dinners that week. Take interest in their interests, instead of expecting them to take interest in your interests. Get them talking, even if it’s their school gossip that you are clueless/don’t care about.
