| DTSS is the brown people Bethesda. Not a good or a bad thing, but that is the reality. |
+1 - Silver Spring resident |
I live in SS too. I’m not bothered by people of lower SES. I’m bothered by vagrancy, crime, and shuttered businesses that are now just another day in DTSS. Why do people who aren’t rich have to pretend they want to live with crime and decaying neighborhoods as a sign of “virtue”. Is it ok for us to have nice things or no? |
Classist of them. Racist of you. |
| DTSS won’t be nice again until Moco can generate some economic growth. I can’t believe they keep pouring density into that part of town. Madness. |
Where else is density going to go? But yeah someone needs to figure out why Ballston is thriving but DTSS is withering. |
For one Ballston actually makes people build things appropriate to the transit access, so tall buildings, lots of retail, and office spaces. Montgomery Planning drools all over itself if someone wants to build a four-story apartment building. It’s really about having grand aspirations and driving a hard bargain instead of capitulating so someone can make a quick buck. |
All of Maryland is withering. 1% economic growth while Virginia at 12% and national average is even higher. |
Same. Years ago we spent time there but there’s no reason for us to go there anymore nor do I have any urge when there are nicer places to go. Our kids definitely aren’t interested when they can go to Bethesda or elsewhere. |
| Crime has taken over Silver Spring. That's why Discovery left. |
What you really mean is that you and your kids aren't interested in hanging out in the vicinity of people of color, and prefer to hang out in Bethesda Row with others who can afford to buy in 20815 and 20816. |

There are no new jobs in DTSS
It’s not a competitive bedroom community for young professionals It lacks the infrastructure for the density it has Stop building more apartments Work on attracting better business first |
| We go there in the winter for the ice skating rink. My kid loves it. We get lunch after. |
How do you know the PP isn’t a person of color? And more importantly, why do you make the assumption that people of color want to be around crime, vagrancy, and closed shops? Do you really believe POC are ok with that - or should be - and might enjoy more vibrant areas that are also cleaner with a variety of stores and shops and without the fear of being shot? Always fascinating the assumption that POC should be ok with mediocre or negative environments and that nice places are only for white people. Check your bias, please. |
The county council is feckless. They’re so preoccupied with handouts to developers instead of addressing economic health of our area. If there were more jobs and the area was more economically vibrant we might be able to address so many issues, not the least of which is affordability, infrastructure, school maintenance. Natali Fani Gonzalez and Andrew Friedson and Evan Glass - looking at you. |
